What are the Bail Bonds Steps?
1. Individuals will first need to be arraigned. This will set the amount
of bail needed to be released from jail. Some individuals, such as those charged
with felonies or murder charges are not likely to get bail, but most others will
in Utah.
2. Contact the bail agent. The bail bond will be available
through them very quickly. Once the agent gathers all necessary information from
the defendant or someone working on their behalf, they will begin the
process.
3. Payment terms will need to be worked out with the defendant.
The defendant or the individual working for them will need to post 10% of the
bail. This is a premium or fee for working with the agent and it will not be
refunded to the individual. Often, it can be paid through cash, personal check
or through credit cards. It can usually be financed as well.
4. Once
paid, the bail bond agent will then post the remaining 90% of the bail and
contact the jail to begin the release procedure. In larger cities and holding
units it can take a longer amount of time but in most cases it will take just a
few hours to have the individual released.
